About Mrs. Murphy
I am very fortunate and excited to begin my third year of teaching at Swift Creek. I have had a wonderful experience so far and truly enjoy my students and coworkers.
I graduated in April 2012 from The Florida State University with majors in Biology and Secondary Science Education through the FSU-Teach program. I prefer to use inquiry-based strategies in my classroom. Although students will participate in traditional learning practices such as notetaking, much of the work in my course will ask the students to answer questions in a creative manner through group problem-solving and through investigation. We will also use the Argument Driven Inquiry instructional model for many of our labs. This method of teaching places the brunt of the "thinking work" on the students, rather than the teacher. Students are posed with a question, given a set of available materials, and asked to answer the question by creating an investigation to gather data. Students work in groups, discuss their methods and findings with other groups, and then write a report to explain and justify their work.
